Happy Birthday Kagiso Rabada: South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is celebrating his 27th birthday today on 25 May. Rabada is one of the few bowlers who have displayed exceptional bowling skills in all three formats of the game. Two years after making his international debut, Rabada reached the Indian Premier League.
In his first season for Delhi Capitals in 2017, the South African played only 6 matches but showed a glimpse of his superb bowling ability. He did not play the next season but when he made a comeback in 2018, it proved to be a nightmare for the batsmen. Rabada ended the season with 25 wickets and in 2020, he also won the Purple Cap with 30 runs in his kitty. As he celebrates his special day, we look back at some of his best performances in the tournament.

Leading the bowling lineup of Punjab Kings against Gujarat Titans, Rabada took the crucial wicket of Wriddhiman Saha to cement his side in the match. Rabada made a comeback in the latter part of the innings to sabotage Gujarat’s plan to accelerate the run rate. He took three more wickets to strangle Gujarat Titans and restrict them to a total of 143. Rabada ended his four-over spell with 4/36.

Royal Challengers Bangalore were already in trouble due to the loss of their top order, chasing the target of 197 runs for Delhi Capitals. Rabada made sure to get Virat Kohli out of Delhi and ran through RCB’s batting lineup to derail his run chase. South Africa took 4 wickets in their bag giving just 24 runs in their spell.

With his ability to deliver early breakthroughs, Kagiso Rabada put Delhi Capitals in the driving seat by dismissing Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh and the dangerous Chris Gayle. He returned to dismiss Chris Jordan and the 19th over and finished the spell with 3/36 as Punjab were limited to 166. Delhi eventually won the match comfortably.

Starting with the wicket of AB de Villiers, Kagiso Rabada played a poor game in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s plan to score a big total on April 7, 2019. He returned to dismiss Virat Kohli at a juncture when the match was against Delhi Capitals. , Rabada finished the spell with two more wickets, reducing Bangalore’s total to 149.

Sunrisers Hyderabad made a sudden start by losing David Warner in the very first over of the innings. Wriddhiman Saha and Kane Williamson tried to get the innings back on track, but only then Hyderabad had to face a brilliant innings from Kagiso Rabada. He first dismissed Saha and came back to give Delhi Capitals success of his own accord.
South Africa ended the innings with 3 important wickets conceding 37 runs in their four overs. Sunrisers Hyderabad were limited on 134 and Delhi Capitals’ batting unit had no trouble chasing it.
